Evergreen Group Chairman and Founder Dr. Chang Yung-Fa established EVA Air in 1989, lifting the impeccable transportation heritage and tradition of quality service of older sister and container-shipping leader Evergreen Line to new heights. Within a few months, he placed orders with the Boeing Company and McDonnell Douglas for 26 aircraft at a purchase value of US $3.6 billion, quickly catching the attention of the global aviation industry. Both companies are part of the Evergreen Group.

EVA Air made its maiden flight on July 1, 1991 and its network now spans the globe, stretching from Asia and China to Europe, North America and Oceania, and links more than 60 cities. EVA Air provides regular cross-strait China service in concert with its subsidiary, UNI Air, and have carefully developed alliances with major carriers that extend our passenger and cargo operations around worldwide.

In June 2013, EVA became a Star Alliance member, giving our passengers access to a vast network of nearly 1,400 destinations in more than 190 countries and providing seamless global services.

EVA established core values that include safe, punctual flights, friendly professional services and efficient, innovative operations. It led the airline industry in 1992 by introducing one of the very first premium economy services. Now named Elite Class, it continues to be emulated by other carriers around the world. Elite Class was further upgraded with all of the latest technologies in 2005 when EVA began adding brand-new Boeing 777-300ERs to our fleet.

Starting in 2012, EVA began unveiling its luxurious new-generation business cabin, Royal Laurel Class. With five-star service and amenities that resemble other carriers’ first class, Royal Laurel Class passengers travel in seats configured in a reverse herringbone that recline 180 degrees and stretch out as much as 79 inches. By simply touching the controls, they can create a cozy inflight cocoon for rest or work or slide forward to enjoy the company of a travel companion. For even greater comfort, they added thoughtful features such as lumbar supports, retractable armrests, coat hooks, space for shoe stowage and convenient seat-side tables for beverages, snacks or writing materials, all within easy reach.

EVA also makes flying fun. In 2005 and again in 2011, they teamed up with Japan’s Sanrio Corp. to introduce their unique EVA Hello Kitty Jets. Aboard these aircraft, they make every flight cheerful with their brightly painted aircraft liveries and more than 100 in-flight service items. Flights on EVA Hello Kitty Jets are memorable experiences for passengers from the moment they board. And again, EVA hit a marketing home run with innovation and enthusiasm.

EVA has also been distinguished by countless awards and honours. Since 2004, they have repeatedly been ranked as one of the world’s 10 safest airlines by the German aviation publication, Aero International. In 2010 and 2012, readers of US-based Travel + Leisure magazine voted EVA as one of the top-10 world’s best airlines. And in 2012, air travellers responding to the SKYTRAX 2012 World Airline Awards survey singled out EVA for the Best Airline Staff Service in Asia.

In 2016 Skytrax awarded EVA Air its prestigious 5-Star Airline Ranking. EVA Air was certified as the 8th 5-Star Airline in the world. The 5-Star Ranking is SKYTRAX’s highest global quality rating and the result of direct and professional analysis of as many as 800 different areas of EVA’s product and service delivery. EVA passengers enjoy a high-quality product, supported by outstanding 5-Star staff service in both the airport and on-board environments.
